2021 Iowa Individual Grades Championship
A great turnout and great start to our Iowa Scholastic Championship Series of Tournaments.
In Kindergarden Leviathan Freerksen came out to show he was boss! He scored second in the combined K-1 section and scored the Best Kindergarden score. He has the opportunity to perhaps run the table and win every year until he graduates High School. Josiah Power started strong, but did not come to this years event and his streak was busted.

In first Grade Jason Shen brought his broom and swept the section with a 4-0 perfect score. Great work Jason!
Second Grade, Alexander Song swept his section with a 4-0. Alex I know is looking for some chess lessons to improve his game.

Third Grade was won by Saifan Hashmi in the largest section of the tournament with a 4-0 score.

Fourth Grade was won by another 4-0 score Aarud Ajoykumar.

Fifth grade kept the streak alive with another 4-0 and victory by Kevin Wang.

Sixth Grade John Paul Keufler in his first over the board tournament came out swinging with a viscious 4-0 score. I hope I see John at more touranments as he achieved a 1380 provisional rating!
Seventh Grade good buddies Stan Bujakowski and Nolon Nixon fought to a grandmaster draw and tied the seciton with 3.5 of 4 points.

Eighth grade, was a dogfight with a three way tie for first Aiden Hoovik, Nischolas Schmitz and winning on tiebreaks Lucas Donato.
9th 10th and 12th grades were combined with no representation from the 11th Grade. Ninth was won by Niko Nixon with an undefeated 4-0, In 10th grade with 3 points of 4 was Mihir Maruvada, and in 12th grade about to age out of scholastics coming all the way from Council Bluffs Iowa was Logan Miller.

Overall we had a late start because of a large onsite registration rush and then we had 40+ new chess players to process their US Chess ID Memberships. The enthusiasm was out of this world. I am really looking forward to our future events.
