April 30 Benefit Event for Irene Fei, Iowa Chess Prodigy



Irene is currently ranked 1st of the World Women Under 9 based on the April FIDE Rating of the International Chess Federation (Current FIDE Rating 1628) and is ranked 1st for 3 concurrent months in the Under 8 Girls based on US Chess Federation Rating. (Current USCF Rating 1791). Irene has received invitations from the US Chess Federation and will represent the US Team to compete in the 2022 World Cadet Chess Championship and 2022 Pan-American Youth Chess Festival. She is the only Iowa youth to receive the honored invitation.


The Des Moines Chess Academy is hosting an all-day event at West Des Moines'


Valley West High School to fundraise for Irene so that she may pursue these great international youth chess opportunities.


The morning starts with a fun free workshop going over everything parents and their children need to know to be a part of the US Chess Federation-rated chess community. The Des Moines Chess Academy will cover all the basic information about how rated chess events operate, including a tournament simulation. The workshop includes a Q & A session where you can ask any questions you have about the rated chess community and get answers from rated players and US Chess Federation Tournament Directors.


After the workshop, practice your skills at a US Chess rated Scholastic Blitz Tournament followed by a Scholastic Bughouse Chess Tournament will be held where entry fees go to support Irene.
